Dermatology and Cutaneous Sciences
Academic Vision: To build and promote a nationally prominent Department of Dermatology through the establishment of integrated scientific, clinical, educational, and community outreach programs rooted in academic excellence and humanistic values. Dermatology and Cutaneous Sciences is a currently an independent division in the College of Human Medicine. Over the coming years our goals are to:
1) Build on existing basic and clinical research programs to advance our understanding of disease mechanisms and develop next-generational therapies.
2) Establish a Dermatology Clinical Care Center encompassing the full spectrum of dermatologic outpatient and inpatient service.
3) Offer Graduate Medical Education committed to the training of physicians of the highest academic and ethical standards.
4) Work in partnership with University and community leaders to meet the health care needs of mid-Michigan.
Animesh A. Sinha, MD, PhD joined as Chief, N.V. Perricone Division of Dermatology and Cutaneous Sciences and Director, Center for Investigative Dermatology at MSU-CHM in Oct. 2005. Following the completion of his M.D. degree in 1982 from the University of Alberta, Dr. Sinha received his Ph.D. degree (Medical Sciences - Immunology) in 1986 from the same institution. Subsequently, he pursued post-doctoral research at Stanford University in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. Dr. Sinha's subspecialty training in dermatology was completed at Yale University/Yale-New Haven Hospital. Prior to his appointment at MSU-CHM, Dr. Sinha was Associate Professor and Program Director, Department of Dermatology, Weill Medical College of Cornell University, where he joined the faculty in 1998. Dr. Sinha is a board-certified dermatologist whose professional goals aim to bridge the bench to the bedside. He has published extensively, including 4 peer-reviewed articles in the journal Science, and received numerous honors and awards for his academic activities. He continues to be sought after as an invited speaker worldwide on a broad range of clinical and research topics.
